Jennifer McKamie
Jennifer McKamie
Hello All,
Southern Gospel started with the Gospel Souls, The Free Spirits,
The Cathedrals, to the McKameys.
Jennifer McKamie is a talented Southern Gospel Soloist/songwriter
who has been singing since the age of eight. She began singing in the
church where her dad was Pastor.
Jennifer was born to I.J. McKamie and Patsy Bright in Hope,
Arkansas. Her dad worked as a truck driver and was a Southern
Baptist Minister. Her mother worked at a number of different jobs,
including working with her dad while he hauled pulpwood.
There were never a lot of worldly goods, but Jennifer says
there was plenty of love and that was the greatest gift of all.
She shared this love with seven siblings; living with this household
was never a dull moment. If you were to ask any one of the siblings
they would tell you "Jennifer was a big daddy's girl" which she remains
today, Daddy is the apple of her eye. Jennifer says "I have so many
good memories of growing up." The love of her parents, her siblings,
the love of Jesus and the direction they gave to salvation.
Jennifer married at a young age and soon had two children by age
twenty-one. Life as she knew it would never be the same because
Jennifer is now known as a domestic violence survivor. Peace and
security was no longer a word Jennifer knew, but still survived.
In December of 1989 Jennifer's ex-husband disappeared with her two
children and during this time Jennifer hit the lowest point of life.
She tried to take her life with a drug overdose, but God had other plans
for Jennifer. She was at a Gospel Singing with the Free Sprits at her
dad's church and life changed for Jennifer. Giving her heart to God
and learning to serve Him. She became active at Center Grove Baptist,
where she taught little ones in Sunday School and also worked as a
youth choir director.
In 1995, Jennifer began her ministry in Southern Gospel, praising the
Lord in song. She has sung throughout Arkansas, Texas, Mississippi,
Tennessee,Ohio and moving on with the Lord. Her goal in music is to give
one person encouragement that God is still on the throne, He still works
miracles everyday, to bring a smile to a sad face, to give a friend to
that lonely person, and to see one soul saved. To be successful in this
she said "That all the heartaches and pain she had to go through will
bring joy in her soul."
Jennifer is now single and loving to her children. Keisha who is 19, graduated
this past May 2001 at Hendersonville, Tennessee. Keisha is her mom's
biggest fan, so when you go to a concert, you will see Keisha there.
Kenneth is 17 and lives with his dad in Baton Rouge. Like Keisha, Ken is one of
his mother's biggest fans. Both children are very supportive of their mother's
decision to go full time in Southern Gospel ministry and their pride
shows in their eyes. Jennifer says she is so blessed to have two of the
best, warm, compassionate children you would ever want to find and even
more blessed to know that they both know the Lord as their personal
Savior.
Jennifer is employed at this time at Tennessee Christian Medical
Center, where she works in the lab. She attends South Carthage
Pentecostal in Carthage, Tennessee.
If you ever have the opportunity to visit with Jennifer in concert
you will not be disappointed, for the spirit of the Lord will be
there also.
